As of May 16, we’ve planted all of our fields for 2017. Despite several equipment malfunctions our new planter got the job done.

Left to right: Kate, Alex, Tim. We set our alarms and got out to the field bright and early this summer to get science done.
This is generation 0 of our experimental evolution study. We are performing selection for tall and short plants in four replicated populations (two in each direction). Selection is being performed on a “Shoepeg” maize landrace collected from Southern Missouri in the 1960’s.
This is the ancient planter we used to plant our experimental evolution populations. It’s probably older than the Shoepeg landrace we’re studying!
Gorgeous maize fields spotted while biking in Southwest Wisconsin.
